?? Bread in Islam:
Bread rather than being just a simple food, it is something highly respected in Islam.
?*Respecting the bread:*
?Imam Ali said: “Respect the bread as God has placed the blessings of the heavens and the earth in it. He was asked: how is respecting the bread? Imam replied: it shouldn’t be cut with knife or be left on the ground” and “respecting the bread is to start eating as soon as it comes to the table (and not to wait for other foods).
It is mentioned as the best of foods.
?The holy Prophet said: “The best of your foods is bread and the best of your fruits is grapes.”
?Imam Sadiq said: “Human’s body is based on bread.” He was avoiding to put the bread under something like a plate.
?*Eating bread has rewards:*
?Imam Ali said: if somebody finds a piece of bread and eats it, it has one reward and if it is dirty and he cleans it and eats it, he will be rewarded 70 good deeds.
?One of the reasons of poverty:
?Imam Ali said: “There are twenty things cause poverty, one of them is disrespecting the bread”
?*A valuable food:*
In Islamic stories we see that bread was something valuable to be given to poor people or it is famous that Imam Ali and his children used to carry a big pack of bread and distribute it among the poor people of Medina at midnights.
?As the holy Prophet said: “Indeed a piece of bread that somebody gives it for the sake of God as charity will become great in presence of Allah like the Uhud Mountain”
?Today we know that bread is a complete food for Human being as it has got calcium, phosphor, Magnesium,
B12 vitamin, etc. which are mostly saved in wheat’s bran. When they remove the bran and give us white flour, nothing remains but Carbohydrate which is sugar!
Whole wheat bread cures the constipation while white bread causes constipation!
Whole wheat bread cures the Anemia while white bread causes Anemia!
And so many other facts about the wrong bread they are feeding us with which we should consider which to choose.
Though the best way is to bake at home with the whole wheat flour and a healthy bread must have been raised and baked well. It’s not recommended to roll the dough but to flatten it with hands as the good bacteria in the dough will die.
So we better consider a healthy, halal and properly made bread for our diet, either wheat made or barley both are two valuable gifts of God to human.
