? Bread in Islam ?
?Bread is not considered as just a basic food in Islam, but instead it is a highly respected source of nutrition and blessing too.
?Imam Ali (a.s.) said: “Respect bread as God has placed the blessings of the heavens and the earth in it. He was asked: how should we respect bread? Imam (a.s.) replied: it should not be cut with a knife or be left on the ground” and “respecting bread is to start eating as soon as it is placed on the table (and not to wait for other foods).
Bread is mentioned as the best of foods.
? The holy Prophet (p.b.u.h.) said: “The best of your foods is bread and the best of your fruits is grapes.”
? Imam Al Sadiq (a.s.) said: “Man’s body is based on bread.” He would avoid putting bread under something like a plate.
?*Eating Bread has Rewards:*
? Imam Ali (a.s.) said: If somebody finds a piece of bread and eats it, it has one type of reward. Whereas if it is dirty and he cleans then eats it, he will be rewarded the equivalent of 70 good deeds.
?*One of the reasons for poverty:*
? Imam Ali said: “There are twenty things that cause poverty, one of them is disrespecting bread”.
?*A Valuable Food:*
In Islamic stories, bread was something valuable to be given to poor people. It is famous that Imam Ali (a.s.) and his children used to carry a big pack of bread and distribute it among the poor people of Medina late at night.
? As the holy Prophet (pbuh) said: “Indeed a person who gives a piece of bread as charity for the sake of God, will become great in the presence of Allah like the Uhud Mountain”.
?Today we know that bread is a complete food for Human beings as it contains calcium, phosphorous, magnesium, vitamin B12, etc. These nutrients are mainly present in the bran (fibrous) part of the grain. When the bran is removed and we are served with white bread (the type of bread we have most access to these days), nothing remains except carbohydrates, which is simply just sugar!
⚠Whole wheat bread cures constipation while white bread causes constipation!
⚠Whole wheat bread cures Anemia while white bread causes Anemia!
⚠There are so many other facts about the wrong type of bread that we are being fed, that makes it imperative for us to be be more careful in selecting which type we choose.
? Ultimately, the best type of bread to consume is the one that has been baked at home with whole wheat flour. A healthy bread must be raised and baked well. It is not recommended to roll the dough but to flatten it with the hands because the former method causes the good bacteria in the dough to die.
So to conclude, we should start selecting the right type of bread for our diets. One that is healthy, halal and properly made using either wheat or barley as these are both two valuable gifts God has provided man with.
